Project one- Bioinspired FINAL

Rationale:
My product is a pen and pencil holder which inspired by hedgehogs. It is designed for children.
According to the brief, my task is to develop a bioinspired domestic storage system by asking “what would nature do here?”
Firstly, I chose the storage of pens because they are easier to store without occupying too much space. Pens are also variable with different sizes. Then, I searched heaps of natural things (both plants and animals).  Hedgehogs’ quills inspired me that their shapes are like pens and hedgehog’s body could act as a penholder.
The pen holder should have not only biomorphic features but also the biomimetic features. I did the research on the habits and characteristics of the hedgehogs. When the hedgehog faces danger, it puts its arms legs and head inside its body. It rolls like a ball and its quills prevent injury. So, I want my pen holder can twist as well. I made the top part bigger than the bottom part and fixed two end points. It can open when you want to put pens in it. It can close up when you need to hold the pens which you will use soon.
I painted it using rose wood colour because it closed to the colour of hedgehogs. There are many benefits about my product. It is flexible to store more or less pens. The material of my product is plastics which is very light and recyclable.
