Figure1: a corner of the Moore Park |
According to the brief, my challenge is to create an
innovative public furniture element which helps give the public space its “sense
of place” and “sense of belongingness”. It should also provide a linkage
between people, prompt strangers to talk to other strangers as if they know
each other.
My design is a table setting is made up of four seats and
one table, which is designed to be used in the park. The identified park I
found it’s called Moore park- a large area in the eastern suburbs of Sydney (Figure
1).
My design is accessible. It is suitable for every person
including elderly, children and disabled people. The space under the seat is
for putting feet and goods. The round
table at the centre is also available for putting things on.
Compared to the existing chair in the park, my design let more
people sit together and people can choose to sit in different directions for
seeing different angles of beautiful views. The angle between two chairs is 90
degree that it is convenient and comfortable for people to chat instead of
sitting side by side.
The material of final design is anti-corrosive pine wood
which is cheap, commonly used for outdoor furniture and can give people the
feeling of nature.
